How cultured are you?


Mastering grammar, speaking many languages, or possessing encyclopedic knowledge does not make someone civilized. The enormous realm of culture includes sculpture, history, philosophy, etc. To determine if you are cultured, I have listed 8 fundamental cultural traits. Having done at least 6 of the items makes you cultured.

What to read, see, do to say, to look smart

1/ Admire museum icons


Culture cannot be discussed without museums. Guardians of old times, they are still privileged locations to uncover and respect ancient souls. We may examine beautiful works by outstanding painters there. We cannot call ourselves cultured without visiting them to see these always-inspiring artworks and sculptures.

2/ See a sad play.


Performing arts are culturally significant. Before film, people saw tragedy and drama in theaters. Though humor has taken over, these theatrical subgenres are nonetheless fascinating. You have a disadvantage if you have never watched a classic dramatic or tragic play.

The works include Le Cid by Pierre Corneille, Thebaid by Jean Racine, Molière's School for Women, Hamlet by William Shakespeare.



3/ Explore classic books and great authors.


First, literature. Language would be flavorless without it. Thus, every educated person must have studied the great authors who gave English its noble letters. Classical writers' works are archives and encyclopedias of human and natural history.

4/ Explore architecture and history


Architecture follows literature. Throughout history, clever men have constructed stunning buildings. We are stunned in front of some because it is hard to fathom how humans could agree on such designs when the means were restricted compared to our century. From Romanesque to Gothic to Baroque, historical legacy lets us see art and civilization evolve.

Historical sites include Versailles Palace, the Colosseum in Rome, the pyramids of Egypt, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, The Great Wall of China.



5/ Know philosophical trends and notable thinkers


Philosophy is crucial to developing one's culture, knowledge, and style of thinking and living. From a single thinker, it has evolved and generated multiple currents. A sophisticated guy should know these and their concepts.

Some notable figures in Western philosophy include Socrates, Plato, René Descartes, Emmanuel Kant.



6/ Watching Classic Films


Cinema, a recent cultural force, is influential. However, great filmmakers have previously shown their works.

Examples of films include The Seventh Seal, Vertigo, The Rules of the Game by Jean Renoir.


7. Study different languages and culture.


Language helps individuals communicate and comprehend one other. Understanding and learning about various cultures changes how people live and think. Traveling, meeting people and cultures, learning from them, and enjoying them without ulterior goals are amazing and priceless experiences. They help us grasp global variety and embrace tolerance to improve the planet. 8/ Join an organization to teach others.


Culture evolves and is enriched by contact with others. A really cultured guy should join an organization to impart his knowledge, however small. You can participate in or arrange activities in your neighborhood, town, department, or region.

Culture shows us that many positions are meaningless. Man learns that giving brings more enjoyment than receiving. This is why many individuals join organizations like The Red Cross to help others.


Finally, culture extends beyond book knowledge. Knowing men's lifestyles and actions. It also involves seeking enriching experiences.
